Cosplay Contest Rules 

BerryCon 2017 Costume Contests Rules & Guidelines

BerryCon will be hosting three separate costume contest categories; closet, craftsmanship, and children’s contests, please see the corresponding requirements for each category below.Entrants are allowed to enter only one category. BerryCon will also be hosting a catwalk that will be open to all attendees, not just those entering the competitions. Please read the following carefully.

Catwalk: 

1. All BerryCon attendees are allowed to participate in the catwalk.

2. Participation is optional for all costume contestants. 

3. Registration for the catwalk is required, and signups will be allowed until one hour before the event. 

4. Line-up for the catwalk will occur 15 minutes before the event. 

5. Participants will have time to strike three poses as they cross the stage. 

​Closet Costume Category: 

1. Entrants must have constructed less than 60% of the costume including props.

2. Groups are encouraged to enter but will only count as one entrant and should fill out only one registration form. 

3. It is preferred that entrants sign up for a judging time slot at least one hour in advance.  

4. Entrants should meet with the judges at the designated place and time they signed up for, please be considerate of other entrants by being punctual. 

5. Having a reference picture is recommended though not required. Both printed and digital reference pictures will be accepted.

6. Judging is that of the costume. Performance based judging will only occur in the event of a tie. 

Craftsmanship Costume Category: 

1. Entrants must have constructed more than 60% of the costume including props.

2. A secondary party may model a costume, but the maker of said costume must be present at the time of judging. 

3. Groups are encouraged to enter but will only count as one entrant and should fill out only one registration form. 

4. It is preferred that entrants sign up for a judging time slot at least one hour in advance.  

5. Entrants should meet with the judges at the designated place and time they signed up for, please be considerate of other entrants by being punctual. 

6. Having a reference picture is recommended though not required. Both printed and digital reference pictures will be accepted.

7. Judging is that of the costume. Performance based judging will only occur in the event of a tie.

Children’s Costume Category:

1. Entrants must be 12 years or younger.

2. Both closet and construction costumes are welcome. 

3. Groups are encouraged to enter but will only count as one entrant and should fill out only one registration form. 

4. It is preferred that entrants sign up for a judging time slot at least one hour in advance.  

5. Entrants should meet with the judges at the designated place and time they signed up for, parents and/or guardians are encouraged to accompany their child(ren). 

6. Having a reference picture is recommended though not required. Both printed and digital reference pictures will be accepted.

7. Judging is that of the costume. Performance based judging will only occur in the event of a tie. 

General Rules:

1. Judging is done before the catwalk, with the criteria and scoring being exclusively up to the judges.

2. In the event of a tie, the contestants involved will be asked to perform three poses in character, at the contestants’ discretion this will occur either privately or during the catwalk.  

3. To be eligible for prizes contestants must be present at the costume contest event.

5. Remember that BerryCon is family friendly;costumes should at a minimum cover for men as shirts and shorts and for women as full-coverage bikini tops and shorts. 

6. All costumes and props must be self-contained, though entrants with large and/or elaborate costumes may bring handlers to assist them.

7. Judging is done on a first-come first-serve basis, early sign-up can help to guarantee a spot for judging. 

8. Violation of the rules may result in disqualification and possible removal from campus property if it is a safety violation.
